The other day I was looking through Takodori-san's
blog and I found a fascinating series of articles on the history of shogi. It's called
Shogi in the Limelight and it was posted in the
Japan Foundation's Newsletter VOL.XXVI/NOS.5-6 in April 1999. These articles are very good and they will definitely give you a good sense of what shogi is.
I have also decided to post ten checkmate that are fairly easy and are very good for beginners.
